Blinded (Temporarily)
I was talking with my best friend who lives in DC about the chaotic, concerning, and dangerous time we’ve entered with the most corrupt administration in history. We both expressed our feelings about how heavy and overwhelming everything feels, especially given she has an unfortunate front-row seat. I wanted to find a way to help her—if even a little—to process and be able to move forward, considering the shark-infested waters in which we swim.
As a lover of metaphors, it occurred to me that what we (the resistance) are feeling in this moment is a kind of temporary blindness. It’s like driving in a tunnel and then emerging into bright, unfiltered sunlight, taking our eyes a few moments to adjust to the stark contrast of past and present. That’s where we are: in the adjustment phase. It’s painful, and it will take time to find a place where we can sit and face what’s coming. But the good news is none of us are in it alone. We’re in it with well over half the population.
I found some strong voices to help me navigate these divisive and incredibly disturbing times. They are honest, forthright, and don’t pull any punches, shedding light into darkness. They inspire me. Check out their work and share others in the comments!
